All points bulletin: Next time you are in Vegas, be on the lookout for some hot vehicles, and we don't mean stolen. That Cybertruck riding your bumper might be a cop. A generous benefactor has donate several of the Tesla trucks to the Metro Police, outfitted with the latest law-enforcement tech.

During Tuesday's State of the Department address, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced plans to add 10 Tesla Cybertrucks to its patrol and SWAT vehicle fleets. News station WWNY reports that LVMPD will be the first law enforcement agency in the US to use these expensive trucks for official police business.

Tesla Cybertrucks with the "Cyberbeast" package start at around $94,000, but versions outfitted with police and SWAT gear will easily exceed $115,000 – especially the SWAT truck, which will have reinforced panels and other modifications. Sheriff Kevin McMahill assured keynote attendees that taxpayers are not footing the bill for the new rigs.

McMahill explained that the department ordered the Cybertrucks over a year ago thanks to a generous donation. While the LVMPD did not disclose the donor's name, some speculate that Ben Horowitz was behind the gift. The co-founder of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz has previously donated high-tech equipment to the LVMPD.

Following the State of the Department keynote, Sheriff McMahill tweeted images of the new vehicles, stating, "These are badass."

Indeed! The black and white cruisers, fitted with overhead and bumper-placed red-and-blues, will definitely get your attention, especially if you see that single-bar headlight in your rearview mirror as an officer pulls you over. The SWAT van is even more impressive with its desert-toned paint job and extra modifications that, uncoincidentally, make it look more like a military vehicle than a Cybertruck.

The final versions of these vehicles will likely look much different. Carscoops spotted that the LVMPD images appear to be re-renders of the upgraded Cybertruck UP.FIT cruiser that Unplugged Performance unveiled last year. Likewise, the mockup of the SWAT truck is a render of a Cybertruck with a proposed military makeover from last year with the word "SWAT" photoshopped on the side.

The new Teslas are not the only high-tech gear Metro announced. The department is deploying "shot-spotters" that can triangulate the position of gunfire within the city and has positioned several drones throughout Las Vegas that will respond to disturbances and potentially dangerous situations. The drones can relay a live video feed to patrol vehicles responding to the call, including the new Cybertrucks.

From memory does Tesla/musk have a $400 million contract for armoured vehicles for Federal govt .
asked someone to see if could smash windows and they broke very easily

Really a power ICE vehicle would be 100X better

Yes some EVs for quiet community policing , wonder how easy to jump in jump out off etc

Wonder if that sweet deal above even followed tendering regulations as maybe someone who loves the cybertruck could explain how it can beat all the seasoned battle hardened frontrunners

Cyber Trucks off-road capability is pathetic compared to even ordinary competition let alone leading class

Lol, this isn't a cybertruck issue, more so a user issue.

I've seen plenty of capable 4x4s get stuck on easy stuff because the driver doesn't know how to off road...
You can clearly see in the video that the all wheel drive software has know idea what to do in snow. It’s been proven more time that the cybertruck it’s a poor off-road vehicle.

Lol, you really think a car can optimally go off road without adjusting PSI in a tyre?
I bet you get bogged on the sand with a jeep...

Except this truck was on a regular city street. And you might have missed the two other cars who negociated the same street without issue.
This is not the only video of a cybertruck stuck in snow... But you must be right, there must be wankers driving those panzers, hence the Wankerpanzer name given by the Brits to this monstrosity.

Tesla has now tweeted it's new moniker for it's EVs

Useless hunks of plastic, especially when you think for a similar price they could give them all unimogs or something vs a car that has been proven to be crap offroad (and no, tires and setup is not the only problem, ofc you need winter tires and a proper psi to get good grip, but these are about as effective as an SUV with 4wd..... for way more money and built like a heap of junk)

There's some irony in those there to protect you... ride around in a car made out of metal with sharp angles that's banned in most of the world for that reason.

Presumably these were donated by Herr Musk? I guess a desperate attempt to prop up sales. In Europe they dropped by nearly 50% in one month since he became Trumps weird overly-stimulated henchman.

Nice to see the share price continues to tank - now under $300 from nearly $500 2 months ago. Once the world realised what this man was really about it started to bite quicky.

Musk thought it'd be a good way to celebrate the anniversary of the Rodney King beatings
